About our coffee

We proudly serve 100% organic, Rainforest Alliance certified coffee from South America that has been harvested, produced, and sold by the same family for generations.   This award-winning, family-operated  coffee plantation is devoted to producing outstanding coffee,  year after year.  In their commitment to sustainability and fair trade practices, the estate boasts shade-grown, 100% organic beans that are hand-picked and then exported to its US operations in Atlanta.  Here the beans are roasted in-house to ensure freshness, quality, and exceptional flavor in every cup.

100% organic, shade-grown

The coffee beans at World Peace Cafe come from the fertile volcanic soil on the Nicaraguan hillside of Selva Negra Coffee Estate.  Translated as “black forest”, it is in this black, nutrient-rich soil that coffee trees are planted, growing beneath a canopy of native Nicaraguan trees.  The  shade protects the beans from direct sunlight and its blistering heat, allowing for the gradual maturation of the beans.  This  shade-grown process produces densely flavorful beans that are known for their  complexity and depth of flavor.

What others are saying:

The best latte I've ever had!  (Kim Y.)

 ***

I was blown away by the latte I had at World Peace last week. We were
supposed to meet at Starbucks (Friday tradition) but naturally the parking
lot was a nightmare so we opted for World Peace strictly based on it's
serene environment and dessert selection. With little expectation (never
really trusted organic coffee) I ordered the soy latte with extra foam. What
I got was the absolute best latte I have had in atlanta. Unreal. The foam
was at least an inch and a half thick and was so dense you could float a
penny on it. And remember - it was a SOY latte. And the coffee itself was
bold and full of rich coffee flavor. Can't imagine how the caffeinated one
must taste. I have been thinking about it ever since. Friday can not come
soon enough!  (Ashley W.)

 More about our coffee:

Award-winning coffee estate for sustainability

Eddy and Mausi Kuhl's Selva Negra Coffee Estate began sustainability practices in the 1970's.  In 2007, they were honored with the Sustainability Award in Business Practice and Projects from the Special Coffee Association of America to venerate their excellence in sustainable practices.   The farm finds meaningful uses for most of the byproducts created during the production cycle, such as using discarded coffee pulp for compost, spreading coffee hulls on the farm to prevent erosion, and creating an elaborate water conservation system that reduces the farm's water usage by 40%.  The Kuhl family also seeks to honor and respect the land through a manifest of kindness:  no hunting, burning, or cutting of forest trees is permitted throughout the 1200 acre property.

Fair trade, seed-to-cup experience

The Kuhl family has harvested coffee on their plantation for generations, starting in the 1800's and continuing to this day.  From the hand-picked coffee beans on shaded trees in the field all the way through the packaging and sale in Atlanta, the journey of their coffee is one that is intimate and handled with care.  Kuhl daughter Heddy manages the family's coffee distribution in the United States through her brokerage firm in Atlanta, where her family's green coffee beans are in-house roasted, packaged, and sold to the finest coffee houses in the city.  This direct handling of Selva Negra's coffee provides a truly genuine seed-to-cup experience that cannot be found at national chain coffee houses, and promotes fair trade within an industry that often suffers from unfair practices.

In-house roasted for superior flavor

Each cup of coffee we serve at World Peace Cafe has been hand-roasted in small batches to ensure quality is tasted in every rich, delicious brew.  With this kind of personal attention, the depth of each roast is hand-crafted to accentuate notes of fragrant cocoa, warm vanilla, and deep plum in every cup.   Whether served as a regular-drip or specialty drink, we know we're serving exceptional coffee that can be enjoyed in good conscience – and with good company – at  World Peace Cafe.
